May 2018 Letter

SCI West Coast members,

We would like to thank all current members for their continued support. It has been a while since our last update to our members.  Although an update email is overdue, we have been continually working to turn our new chapter into a success.  The process may be slow at times but be assured that we are focused on creating a group that can have a positive influence towards protecting hunting within British Columbia.

We recently had a booth at the BC Sportsman’s & BC Hunting show at the Tradex March 2-4.  We had the opportunity to meet numerous people, explain what we are about and signed up many new members.   Our membership is growing, and this is key as we need a good membership base to do the work we hope to do, as well as to be able to offer benefits to our members.

We are also in the process of providing our members with an online western Canadian magazine to provide more Canadian content for everyone.  At the show we were also able to make contacts within several hunting related industries and to develop some relationships that we hope will be a benefit to our chapter in the future.

Our website has now been created and is live.  Please check it out at www.sciwestcoast.org.  We’ve also started a Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/sciwestcoast/ and will be adding to our social media presence in the near future.  Look us up and give our page a “like”.  Both the website and Facebook page will have updates added periodically.  Help us get our name out there by engaging in content and sharing posts.  This will be one of the more effective ways for us to grow and give all our members a stronger voice.  Your participation is necessary.

Our first fundraiser was held last June.  This was a pig roast at Vice President Ken Pamplin’s home.  The event was good for our club as we were able to sign up numerous new members as well as raise the funds needed to set up our chapter.  Now that the setup phase of our chapter is complete, we will be having our second fundraiser in June again.  This will be our first annual banquet and will be held June 23rdin at WEST LANGLEY HALL, 9400 208thStreet, Langley BC .  This is a change of venue that was originally printed on the Tickets so please note this change.

We will have Tammy Wood of Master Chef Canada and Sossy Outdoors catering the event and our dinner will include several domestic dishes to choose from as well as some interesting appetizer dishes made from game meats including Mountain Lion.

We have various raffle and prize items donated including cougar/lynx combination hunt with Skinner Creek hunts in Tatlayoka Lake BC, and other hunting prizes including wolf, turkey, and several exotic destinations as well. There will also be guns and gear and gift certificates to auction off.  Tickets for this event will be $90 per person and our seating will be limited so please do secure your tickets sooner rather than later.  All are welcome, no need to be an SCI member to attend.

Tickets are available now for 3 of the draws that will be featured at the banquet:

1.    Cougar/lynx hunt with Skinner Creek.  Tickets are $100 each and there will only be 200 sold.  Skinner creek is one of BC’s premier cat hunting operations and is a high success hunt.

2.    Hunt in Namibia for 2 people.  Includes 4 days hunting 2 baboons, 2 warthogs, 1 common duiker and 1 red hartebeest. Days can be added as well as species. The hunt value is $5150USD Tickets for this draw are only $40 and there will only be 100 tickets sold.

3.    Gun Draw, Savage 7mm-08 rifle with scope tickets are $10.

Please contact any SCI board member to purchase tickets or email info@sciwestcoast.org

Both the dinner and the raffle items are really important to the future success of our organization so please come out and support us and bring friends and family.  The goal of our chapter is to raise funds to bring awareness to the non-hunting public on the importance of wildlife management within BC.  The role that the North American Wildlife management model has played in the increased numbers and success of wildlife across BC including the role that predator hunting plays in the well being of all species in BC.

Lastly, with spring bear season just under way, Black Powder Tannery has recently offered 10% discounts off of tanning for SCI Westcoast members.

If there are any concerns, issues or suggestions you may have or if you’re looking for ways to help out please feel free to email our info@sciwestcoast.orgaddress or call one of the board members.

Our banquet is fast approaching and will be paramount towards our success as a chapter.  As this is our first banquet as a chapter please let us know as soon as possible to purchase tickets as we need to gather a solid idea of attendance.

Sincerely,

SCI West Coast, Board of Directors
